Citipedia

What’s your idea?

Google maps meets Sim City. Citipedia is an online public town planning tool: derelict sites earmarked for development will be highlighted and made open to the public to suggest how they could be developed or to review proposed developments.

An online toolset will allow people to build there own buildings/amenities in the empty space and suggest a purpose for them.

Viewers of the site will be able to see all the submitted designs and vote on them.

The site would also provide councils and developers with information to help them develop a better urban environment.

What’s the social need or challenge your idea could address?

Will help create better urban environments and educate the public about city planning.

What’s really new about your idea?

Although the concept of interactive city maps is not new the ability to highlight unused or primed space and allow people to interact with this to the level of potentially creating their own real world urban environment is.

What inspired you to come up with the idea in the first place?

Bad architecture and lazy, greedy city planning.

From 1-5, what stage of development would you say your idea is in?

Stage 1

What can we do for you?

I am not sure how to answer this… it needs everything… Geek, Mentor and Funder.

I would like to be involved in the idea but I don’t really want to have ownership. If someone wants to take it on then that would be fine.

Sounds a bit like an EU / Environment Agency funded exploratory project from a few years back. I would strongly suggest anyone contemplating this idea to have a browse of their work http://www.veps3d.org
