MyPoliceService

What’s your idea?

MyPoliceService (formally My Public Service) is an online platform to capture the public services we use. I am aiming this at specifically at the police service. Let’s get the police on the internet and encourage communities to be proud of their officers on the beat.

What inspired you to come up with your idea in the first place?

Recently after a friends flat was broken into I’ve had the experience of loosing confidence in the police and not being kept informed about what is happening on the case. Let’s have police feedback and case updates on the web. Let’s get police telling and showing us what they’re doing. Let’s use new technologies to report crimes. Let us know what’s happening in our community and where our police officers are.

From 1-5, what stage of development would you say your idea was in?

This really is an initial idea but feel it has potential to really grow.

What can we do for you?

I’d like a whole host of different people to work on this including web developers. People who have knowledge of public services and also how to secure data.

If Social Innovation Camp is able to help push your idea forward, do you have the time or desire to take ownership of it?

I’d be happy for some to continue my idea. I would like to be involved also. I think Social Innovation Camp has the potential to bring people together to get excited about this and to develop it into a sell-able concept to the local council.

This idea was submitted by Sarah Drummond.

Sarah is a service designer about to graduate from the Glasgow School of Art.

[…] MyPoliceService We’ve sneakily changed the name of this one to explain the idea a little better - hopefully you can come up with an improved version at the Camp! It was originally entered as ‘My Public Service‘, but the idea is to create a feedback tool for the police service. The judges thought this had the potential to do what Patient Opinion is doing in the NHS for the police. And there’s an American version already called RateMyCop.com. […]

[…] MyPoliceService :well we already have PatientOpinion – I was about to say (smugly) – but, does it cover what we (ALISS) might want to promote (sharable experiences of local not-necessarily-officially-NHS resources)? Maybe highlights a need to have a chat with the PO folk about scope? […]
